BIO INSPIRED TEXTILES: MAKER COLLABORATION

PROJECT SUMMARY

A collaboration with Bio-Inspired Textiles - Dr Veronika Kapsali and Dr Cathryn Hall.

Informed by biological structures, ideas for combining weaving with paper making techniques were explored with a view to developing designs for furniture. Honing skills in paper making, and finding ways for bonding weaving with paper, a table prototype has been created from paper yarns and paper slurry. It can support at least twenty times its own weight. It raises questions about how the ideas can be developed further and scaled up for different types of sustainable products.
