James Thompson is an artist exploring the perception of space and its interpretation, re-interpreting spatial situations through sculpture, moving image and performance. We have been exploring scanning as a method of tracing pathways through space, capturing details and surfaces along a controlled, yet arbitrary route. This has included scanning the surface of the jacquard machine itself and its physical context within the college. These scanned images have been put into repeat and translated into a woven textile using jacquard weaving.
